Tennessee coach Barnes tests positive for COVID-19

The Tennessee men’s basketball program suspended team activities Monday following multiple positive COVID-19 tests among players and staff, including head coach Rick Barnes.The No. 12 Volunteers were scheduled to open the season against Charlotte on Wednesday night at the Volunteer Classic in Knoxville, Tenn.The school issued a statement confirming the tests were conducted Sunday. The players, coaches, managers and support staff will be retested Monday.”The basketball program is following SEC, local and university public health guidelines to prioritize the health and safety of all student-athletes and staff as well as the campus and local community,” the statement said.The school said an update on the status of the tournament will be provided by Tuesday. Tennessee was scheduled to face VCU on Friday afternoon.
